Abstract

In this article, I have discussed the role and functions of the ILO and India’s contribution to the ILO. Though WTO is not directly involved in the monitoring of international labor standards and there is no express link between the two, there is a certain polarization in the views concerning the effects of such linkages on employment. Many countries have opposed the linkage particularly India. The worker organizations in India are not happy with labor standards, at the international level they have taken a stand to oppose any linkage between the ILO and WTO but continue to fight domestically for the improvement of labor standards.
