Abstract

Research has proven that employees who get recognized tend to have higher self-esteem, more confidence, more willingness to take on new challenges and more eagerness to be innovative.As such, reward structures and the perceived value of those rewards, come more into focus as financial pressures restrict the type of rewards available, while retaining and motivating staff becomes more challenging.Employer-Employee relations are concerned with managing and maintaining the employment relationship which involves handling the pay-work bargain, dealing with employment practices, terms and conditions of employment, issues arising from employment, providing employees with a voice and communicating with employees. The purpose of this study is to establish the influence of employer employee relations on job satisfaction in an organization with special reference to Kenya Pipeline Company. This was achieved with the aid of the following objectives: To examine the influence of reward and benefits on job satisfaction, to establish the impact of maintenance on the job satisfaction, to determine the impact of communication between the employer and employees on job satisfaction and to determine the effect of grievance handling on job satisfaction.Organizations go through a lot of challenges when it comes to attracting, retaining and engaging skilled workers. This research study examined reward policies and ranking sixteen factors that influence employee motivation in different organizations/ sectors in Ireland. A semi-structured interview was used as well as a descriptive survey method with the questionnaires as the main data collection instrument.The research study has shown that managers can employ different strategies to motivate employees, but that it is important that managers keep in mind that different strategies would have a different motivational impact on different people. To get optimum results from a motivational strategy, the manager has to realize and understand issues, which requires recognition of each individual’s unique values, beliefs and practices.The aim of this research was to explore three vital issues in human resource management mainly: to ascertain whether rewards motivate employees, identify what kinds of rewards employees consider most beneficial and finally discuss some dilemmas and difficulties managers face in applying motivation theory to workplace setting enhanced motivation can be attained when managers do their best to design the work setting so they become motivators in themselves while at the same time eliminate demotivating factors at the work place.Performance related rewards came in picture in recent years for so many reasons. That includes rewards as motivation for employees to excel, reduce employer-employee conflicts and ensure fair reward treatments. This study examined how a proper performance related reward system can be used as a tool to enhance work performance. The study include different performance related reward systems that may be embraced by man- agreement to foster work performance, what performance appraisal measures need to be put in place and the relationship between performance related reward systems and work performance. The benefits of embracing the Performance based rewards are also discussed.
