Abstract

The purpose of this research study was to explore the relationship between Anger and Personality at workplace. The data of 60 participants was collected via 2 sets of questionnaires “Big Five Personality test” given by Goldberg (1966) and “State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory” given by Speilberger (1988). The participants ranged from 22-28 years of age. All of them were working. The Pearson’s Product Moment correlation was calculated to find out the relationship between the variables. The findings revealed that the correlation between Agreeableness & Trait Anger [r (58) =  -0.35,p<0.02], Agreeableness & State Anger [r (58)= -0.30,p<0.05], and Agreeableness & Anger Out [r (58) =  -0.43, p<0.01] was negative, moderate and statistically significant. The correlation between Conscientiousness and State Anger [r(58)= -0.31,p<0.05] was negative, low and statistically significant. The correlation between Neuroticism and Trait Anger [r (58 )= -0.36,p<0.01], Neuroticism & State Anger [r (58)= -0.43,p<0.01] , Neuroticism & Anger Out [r(58)= -0.35,p<0.02 ], and Neuroticism & Anger In [r (58)=  -0.49,p<0.001] were negative, moderate, and statistically significant. This suggested that out of the five personality traits measured; only Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Neuroticism were significantly associated with anger. Openness to experience and Extroversion were not significantly related to anger. The implications in the area of anger management were discussed.
