Productivity on construction sites is a scientific concept that can be empirically observed and measured via work study. In this paper, a comparative work study was carried out on two selected construction sites-A and B located in Port Harcourt, to acquire direct measurement information on the productivity of selected trades. The sampling method for site selection took into consideration ongoing building projects under construction, having many craftsmen, and unskilled workers. Therefore, although, the construction sites selected had various operatives and tradesmen belonging to diverse trades, the focus of the study was on masons, carrying out plastering and masonry works. A total of 31 skilled and unskilled workers were observed in the work study. From the analysis of the study carried out, the average daily productivity in block laying was found to be 22.58 m2 for site A and 23.74 m2 for site B. The average daily productivity in plastering was 18.67 m2 for site A and 19.71 m2 for site B. The average variation in the productivity of masons in block laying and plastering was found to be 4.22 m2 (site A), 4.81 m2 (site B) and 2.06 m2 (site A), 1.46 m2 (site B) respectively. The work study analysis carried out in this study shows that the daily productivity of the craftsmen (masons) under investigation in block work and plastering is low (22.56 m2 per gang of 4) in block laying which is about 5.6 m2 per person per day. This output is lower when compared to the acceptable productivity standard in Nigeria. The variations in the output of block laying and plaster were mainly caused by supply chain and logistics issues, leading to delays in materials delivery. The outcome of the work study provides empirical evidence useful for addressing these factors and serves as a basis to systematically improve the productivity of plastering and masonry works via more efficient supply chain and logistics management on construction sites.</em></p> Amadi Alolote , Beals, Sampson Alele Copyright (c) 2024 NOLEGEIN-Journal of Supply Chain and Logistics Management https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/1263 Fri, 03 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Marketing Channels and Strategy of Amazon: An Analysis of Customer Obsession, Low Prices, Product Selection, and Convenience https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/1069 <p>This case study explores the marketing channels and strategy of Amazon, one of the world's largest<br />online retailers. The case study was DOVV Cameroon. The reasons to write on this topic are the irregularities in the process of procurement that is fictitious delivery, substandard supply and partial supply of goods. Based on the problem above, the researcher came out with the following objectives: to investigate if procurement influences the growth of enterprises, to investigate the contribution of procurement to the growth of enterprises, and to. The time involved in the process of procurement on the growth of enterprise and the quality and quantity in the process of procurement were also investigated. The researcher later comes up with theories that match with the research topic: (a) the theory of Gelderman and Semeijin theory, which states that a firm’s supply depends on two factors, namely, profit impact and supply risk, (b) Driedonks theory, which comments on the source of procurement, and (c) the Byatt theory, which states that managers have the responsibilities to know all those involved in the procurement process. This study adopted a mixed research methodology, both qualitative and quantitative research techniques, and relied on the field research conducted both through a survey of administered questions as well as structured interviews. One of the findings of the study was that procurement influences the growth of enterprises. Due to this, there should be some means of accurately tracking inventory. Due to this, there should be some means of accurately tracking inventory in order to ease the management of inventory. Some of the most useful methods of tracking inventory are barcodes where every item carries a label that gives information on the items, stock books and the Kanban system. It is against this background that the main endeavour of this project is to investigate if inconsistent tracking has an impact of inventory management with specific objective being to find out the impact of documentation on inventory management. From these objectives the following questions were asked; what impact inconsistent tracking has on inventory management. The theories adapted to back this work were The Just In Time theory by<br>Taiichi Ohno (1984), The Wilson’s Model for Inventory Management by R.H Wilson (1934) and the Theory of Constraints by Dr Eliyah Goldrath (1984). Conclusions were drawn from the data collected, and recommendations were made, such as using the available tracking software properly.</p> EYONG AKO Copyright (c) 2022 NOLEGEIN-Journal of Supply Chain and Logistics Management https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/928 Mon, 10 Oct 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Three Pillars of Sustainability Performance Measures: Case Study of HUL https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/926 <p>Sustainable development is a fundamental break that is going to reshuffle the entire ecosystem. “India<br>is presenting a plan to coordinate the three dimensions of sustainable development: social,<br>environmental and economic, by 2030”. Cryptocurrency is any virtual currency that uses cryptography to secure transactions. Cryptocurrencies lack a centralized issuing authority and instead rely on a decentralised system to record transactions. And issue new units. The use of cryptocurrencies is illegal in some countries, but it is a massive business in others. That authorities have embraced, but cryptocurrency's dominance is undeniable and has taken the market to over $1 trillionIt is supported by the blockchain, a decentralised peer-to-peer network. The process of mining a bitcoin is quite expensive. It has a high toll on resources like money, the users time and electricity. Blockchain technology ensures that all cryptocurrency transactions are recorded in a public financial database. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple are few notable examples of cryptocurrencies. The primary goal<br />of the research is to investigate the fluctuations in the cryptocurrency market. Cryptocurrency is a crucial step towards decentralised currency. Supply chain of many<br />organizations became totally defunct. Even financial supply chain also was not working and finance<br />got stuck across the world. Now we need to design the supply chain and supply chain network in a new<br />way. So we can defend any situation in future. In the 1940s and 1950s, the focus was into material<br />handling in labor intensive operations and making better use of available resource. In 1980 the total<br />focusshifted in to supply chain management and it’s a sea change in total approach. But after pandemic<br />the total scenario has been changed and we need to think to design the supply chain network in a totally<br />new ways. Efficient supply chain management system should be agile, adaptive and can respond to<br />changes arising out of any situation. Supply chain has got influence on people &amp; society at large. These<br />are socio-economic issues like local poverty elevation, supplying essentials commodities in emergency<br />time; marginalization or unemployment issue etc. supply chain could contribute towards to the<br />development of community &amp; enhancement of the quality of members of community. In global operation<br />organizations often encounter stiff competition &amp; in order to have competitive pricing, they force<br />supplier to bring down the cost. It has been noticed that supplies are forced to bring down their cost<br />and thus they pay lower wages to the people involved in supply chain operations. Why Supply Chain<br />Management essential for any manufacturing or services organization? SCM helps an organization to<br />streamline the process. Think about a retail shop. If they implement supply chain management, they can<br />effectively track their sale -&gt; inventory -&gt; reordering resulting in optimal utilization of resource and<br />capital. Think about a software product development organization here using SCM; they can optimize<br />human resource utilization and manage important milestones, resulting in lower risk in budget overrun.<br />Let's consider a software service organization. They are bidding for a project, and finally, the client<br />awarded the order to them. Now, what all they need to do? They need to plan for resource planning.<br />Will they onboard all the resources (solution architect, business analyst, designer, programmer, tester,<br />deployment team) together? For sure, they will not. Now, there is another challenge. Resources with<br />different skill sets have different hiring time and different learning curve to become productive. Here<br />SCM can play a crucial role to prepare an optimal project plan. It can help the software firm decide<br />when to onboard which type of resource and when they can be released, resulting in optimal budget<br />management and profitability</p> Tuhin Mukharjee Copyright (c) 2022 NOLEGEIN-Journal of Supply Chain and Logistics Management https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/862 Thu, 12 May 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Artificial Intelligence in Supply Chain Management https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/844 <p>Every company's long-term sustainability depends on an effective supply network. Inventory estimation accuracy is a significant competitive advantage. The supply chain's capacity to satisfy demand is affected by weather, excessive seasonality, and changes in customer perception or media attention. Humans can now think at previously unimaginable levels thanks to AI, which has just been shown to act as an extension of the human brain. Instead of replacing humans, artificial intelligence (AI) will enhance our strategic and creative talents. To put it another way, AI refers to a group of computer technologies that can supposedly think for themselves and take action based on what they've learned. Just a matter of time until cloud-based machine learning and information processing techniques take over the world of computers. AI has been shown to save money, generate revenue, and optimize the use of firm assets across a wide variety of corporate sectors. AI is making it feasible for organizations to identify their target clients, demographics, price, and construct the right message for their customers, allowing for near-perfect forecasting and prediction of client demand. Focusing on these four areas of value development is key to gaining a competitive advantage. A combination of artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning is being used by supply chain executives to achieve three goals: 1) creating waste-reducing designs, 2) tracking production in real-time, and 3) enabling shorter process cycle times. These strategies are critical for bringing new items to market more quickly.</p> Sai Varshini Pnamala, Vani Majumdar, Manideep Reddy Bokka, Jahnavi Poluri Copyright (c) 2022 NOLEGEIN-Journal of Supply Chain and Logistics Management https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/844 Fri, 28 Jan 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Foreign Direct Investment by Indian Firms: A Study of Resource and Strategic Asset Seeking https://mbajournals.in/index.php/JoSCLM/article/view/804 <p>India’s internationalization through outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) has registered an increase since the liberalization, privatization and globalization policies in the 1990s.
