Abstract

This study examines the role of digital solutions in improving agricultural insurance and credit risk management among farmers. Agriculture is affected by various risks such as crop failure, climate change, pest attacks, and financial difficulties. These risks can reduce farmers’ income and create difficulties in repaying agricultural loans. The study focuses on the use of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, satellite imaging, remote sensing, blockchain, and digital payment systems in agricultural insurance. These technologies help in monitoring crops, assessing agricultural risks, processing insurance claims, and providing timely financial support to farmers. Primary data for the study was collected from 105 farmers in Bhadravathi Taluk, Shivamogga District. Secondary information was also collected from various reliable sources related to agriculture, insurance, digital technology, and credit risk management. The study identifies the major factors that influence farmers’ adoption of agricultural insurance and examines the role of insurance in reducing credit risk. The findings indicate that digital solutions improve transparency and efficiency in agricultural insurance services. They also make insurance more accessible to farmers, support faster claim settlement, improve risk assessment, and help provide timely compensation during crop losses. Overall, the study shows that digital technologies can strengthen agricultural insurance systems, reduce financial uncertainty, improve farmers’ ability to manage credit obligations, and contribute to greater financial stability and sustainable agricultural development.
