This study highlights the role of microfinance institutions in developing economies and the impact of
the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on microfinance institutions. It subsequently argues
why the pandemic has a negative influence on the financial efficiency of microfinance institutions
while resulting in a positive social outlook for MFIs at the same time.
