Youth Perception on Tax Filing and Financial Responsibility in Urban Hyderabad
Abstract
This study is an attempt to explore the attitude, awareness, and responsibilities of youth towards tax filing. It also focuses on challenges that youth face with income tax system. As financial independence is of prime importance now-a-days among youths, specifically with the rise of gig and freelance work, tax compliance has emerged as a key issue. The study explores the attitude of youth aged between 18-30 years and an attempt have been made to identify how much informed youths are about their personal taxation. The research targets individuals aged 18 to 30, aiming to understand how they perceive taxation as a civic duty and the extent to which they participate in the income tax system. It further seeks to analyze how financial literacy, digital tools, and government programs influence tax awareness and compliance among young people. By uncovering major obstacles such as complicated procedures, insufficient guidance, and prevalent misconceptions, the study emphasizes the importance of improving tax education and streamlining compliance processes. The overall objective is to provide insights that can inform policy measures aimed at encouraging voluntary tax compliance and nurturing a generation of financially aware and responsible citizens. Findings of the study will reveal that many youths are not prepared to file their own income tax
