Women Entrepreneurs: Barriers and Breakthroughs

Abstract

Women entrepreneurs are playing a transformative role in the global economy by driving innovation, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to sustainable development. Over the past decade, the participation of women in entrepreneurial activities has increased significantly across both developed and developing nations. Despite this progress, women entrepreneurs continue to encounter multiple barriers that limit their business growth and long-term sustainability. These challenges include restricted access to financial resources, gender discrimination, societal expectations, inadequate mentorship, limited networking opportunities, and difficulties in balancing professional and personal responsibilities. This study examines the major barriers faced by women entrepreneurs while also highlighting the breakthroughs and achievements that demonstrate their resilience and leadership capabilities. The paper further explores the role of digital technology, government initiatives, financial inclusion programs, and women-focused entrepreneurial platforms in supporting business development among women. Several successful examples of women-led enterprises illustrate how determination, innovation, and policy support can help overcome structural and cultural obstacles. In addition, the study emphasizes the importance of education, mentorship, skill development, and inclusive policies in creating a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem. The findings suggest that empowering women entrepreneurs can significantly contribute to economic growth, social progress, gender equality, and community development across the world.
