A Study on the Role of Entrepreneurship in EmploymentGeneration

Entrepreneurship plays a vital role in promoting economic development by creating employment opportunities, encouraging innovation, and supporting sustainable business growth. This study examines the contribution of entrepreneurship to employment generation, with particular emphasis on the role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in creating both direct and indirect job opportunities. The research investigates key factors influencing entrepreneurial success, including access to finance, business training, market demand, innovation, and the educational background of entrepreneurs. A quantitative research approach was adopted using a structured questionnaire administered to 56 entrepreneurs selected through convenience sampling. The findings reveal that most entrepreneurs rely on personal savings and financial support from family and friends during the initial stages of business establishment, while government grants and subsidies remain underutilized. The study further indicates that business expansion contributes significantly to the creation of permanent, seasonal, and part-time employment opportunities within local communities. Formal entrepreneurial training and previous business experience were also found to improve managerial capabilities and enhance the potential for sustainable employment generation. However, limited access to financial resources, inadequate infrastructure, market uncertainty, and operational risks continue to restrict business growth and long-term job creation. The study concludes that entrepreneurship has significant potential to reduce unemployment and strengthen economic resilience. Strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems through improved access to finance, skill development programs, supportive government policies, and business infrastructure can further enhance the employment-generating capacity of entrepreneurial ventures and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development.
