Abstract
Social media has become an integral part of the daily lives of youths, influencing various aspects of their behavior, including study patterns. This executive summary provides an overview of the impact of social media on the study habits and academic performance of college students. Access to Information: Social media platforms provide a vast pool of educational resources, enabling students to access information beyond traditional classroom settings. Collaborative Learning: Youths engage in collaborative learning through social media platforms, fostering group discussions and knowledge-sharing. Distraction and Procrastination: Social media often serves as a major distraction, leading to procrastination and reduced focus on academic tasks. Sleep Disruption: Prolonged use of social media, especially before bedtime, can disrupt sleep patterns, impacting students' overall well-being and academic performance. Comparison and Stress: Youths may experience stress due to constant comparison with peers on social media, leading to feelings of inadequacy and impacting their self-esteem. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): Fear of missing out on social events and activities shared on social media can contribute to increased anxiety levels, diverting attention from academic responsibilities. Excessive Screen Time: Spending prolonged hours on social media may contribute to reduced study time, affecting youths' ability to manage their academic workload effectively.
