Abstract

Our paper attempts to study the influences of liquid cash crunch after demonetization on the informal localized bag producing industry in West Bengal. The study is significant because the state government has given special emphasis on small enterprises at the policy level in recent times in order to generate income and employment. Majority of the small enterprises operates in an informal setup. The present paper is a mere effort to study how these small enterprises faced severe problems after demonetization and what are the prospects for them, if any. The selection of Belgharia and the adjacent region as the sample region is purposive because the localized bag producing industry includes an adequate number of small enterprises adhering informal markets. The data collected through primary survey with semi-structured questionnaire and indirect interview method have been presented through appropriate statistical tables, bar diagrams, and pie charts with significant data analyses to detect the influences of liquidity crunch after demonetization on small informal enterprises of this localized industry.
