The Impact of Excessive Social Media Usage Among College Students with Special Reference to the Students of the Nilgiri District

Abstract

Social media has become such an essential tool for education and social interaction that many people now rely on it every day. As platforms for communication, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, mobile IM apps like WhatsApp, Viber, and IMO, as well as video conferencing services like Skype, have all seen growth in recent years. Concern has recently been raised about the extent of usage of these different platforms. According to the survey, Nilgiri District kids use social media often. The results showed that Instagram, which almost all respondents subscribed to and used, was the most popular social media site used by students at Nilgiri District on a regular basis Entertainment is the most discussed issue on social media by students of the Nilgiri District, and it is also the major reason why the majority of them use social media. Social media platforms are essential for promoting sustainable tourism since they highlight local food and raise tourists' awareness of festivals and activities in the area. Hence, it can be concluded from the study that students if Nilgiri District are more addicted to social media.
