Abstract

The Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria is an autonomous body charged with the responsibility to regulate the formation and management of companies in Nigeria. It is headed by a Registrar-General. However, since its formation the issue of privacy and confidentiality has received little or no attention bearing in mind the accessibility to public records of registered companies at the Corporate Affairs Commission, this has created a dilemma for scholars who advocate the confidentiality of the records at the Corporate Affairs Commission. In this regards, this article intends to address this dilemma by outlining the cause of this problems and providing possible solution in this regards. The doctrinal research method was adopted by way of exploratory and descriptive methodology, as well as the examination of necessary legislations. Our research finds that business names information is well-protected as compared with that of Private limited companies that is beseeching for firmer protection.
