Abstract

Traditional portfolio frameworks such as the BCG and GE–McKinsey matrices prioritize market growth and relative market share, often overlooking cash-flow durability, regulatory exposure, and technological defensibility. In contemporary markets characterized by capital intensity, accounting distortions, and policy volatility, growth-centric models frequently misclassify strategic strength. This paper introduces the P-MACTR Matrix, a reality-weighted strategic evaluation framework built on seven dimensions: Profitability Reality, Market Share, Market Growth, Cash Flow Strength, Competition Intensity, Technology Position, and Regulation Impact. Central to the framework is the Profit Reality Filter (PRF), designed to distinguish sustainable economic profit from accounting- driven or debt-fuelled earnings. Unlike static portfolio tools, P-MACTR applies industry-specific weight structures to reflect real-world failure mechanics across sectors. The framework generates a Weighted Reality Index that classifies firms into categories such as Sustainable Kings, Cash Fortresses, Warning Zone entities, or Strategic Traps. Comparative case applications demonstrate how weighted economic fundamentals can reveal fragility hidden behind high-growth narratives while identifying durable strength in mature industries. By shifting emphasis from expansion optics to economic resilience, the P-MACTR Matrix offers investors, strategists, and policymakers a structured and adaptable tool for long-term strategic evaluation.
