This study examines the trade financing strategies practiced at AU Small Finance Bank and evaluates their effectiveness in supporting business growth, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Trade finance plays a crucial role in facilitating domestic and international trade by reducing payment risks, improving liquidity, and ensuring smooth transaction flows. The research is based on a 45-day internship in the Trade Finance Department, supported by analysis of financial data from FY 2021–22 to FY 2023–24. The study adopts an exploratory and descriptive research design, using primary data collected through observation and informal interviews, along with secondary data from annual reports, RBI guidelines, and regulatory frameworks. Findings reveal that Letters of Credit and Bank Guarantees constitute most trade-finance transactions, reflecting clients’ preference for secure instruments. The analysis also indicates consistent growth in trade-finance income and a strong positive correlation between trade volume and profitability. Digital transformation initiatives have significantly reduced turnaround time and enhanced operational efficiency. Furthermore, the bank’s strict compliance framework and risk-management practices help mitigate credit and operational risks. The study concludes that trade finance is a strategic revenue pillar for AU Small Finance Bank, contributing to financial inclusion, MSME empowerment, and overall economic development while strengthening the bank’s competitive position in the Indian banking sector.
