Non-experimental Study to Evaluate Mobile Phone Dependence and Negative Impact of Mobile Phone Dependence among Students

Abstract

A mobile phone is a device that moves around a wide geographic area. It does so by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone network. Descriptive (non-experimental) group design was adopted to evaluate mobile phone dependence and negative impact of mobile phone dependence among students of a selected college at Panchkula, Haryana. Baseline mobile phone dependence and negative impact of mobile phone on study participants was assessed with self-administered questionnaire. 12% nursing students were having mild dependence on mobile phone, 40% nursing students were having a moderate dependence on mobile phone, 48% nursing students were having severe dependence on mobile phone. Negative impact of mobile phone dependence showed, 60% nursing students having mild negative impact, 32% nursing students having moderate negative impact, 8% nursing students having severe negative impact. However, interesting findings reveal that nursing students are more involved with their mobile phones. Chi square test was used to determine demographic finding of study revealed that +ve mean ± SD in mobile phone dependence among nursing students was 59.9±1.87082 and negative impact of mobile phone dependence among nursing students was 33.26±2.58843 respectively.
