Abstract

The present paper aims to focus on the influences of lockdown 2020 on the small firms of the Zari and Embroidery industry, an important informal localized industry in West Bengal. To access the issue, the analysis is based upon how small firms of the industry are influenced due to the restrictions appearing for the event of lockdown. The issue is crucial since this particular industry is characterized by the dominance of production units of small firms of the industry who are agglomerated in specific spatial clusters in particular geographical horizon throughout the state. The present study is particularly confined to a particular spatial location in West Bengal, namely Ekshara (Howrah). The present study is confined to explore how small firms of this industry ensure their survival in this competitive market and contribute to industrial growth during the post-Covid phase. The selection of the site is based on the increasing and existence of small informal clustered production units and incorporation of their high growth potential and large employment opportunities and also their geographical advantage. The micro-level field study, sampling designs and data analysis procedure is based upon the standard model approach to accept spatial heterogeneity within the frame of the study.
