Abstract

This study examines the critical role of digital literacy in enhancing job performance, workplace adaptability, and career advancement among employees working in higher education institutions (HEIs). In an era where digital technologies increasingly shape teaching, research, administration, and institutional communication, the ability of employees to effectively use and integrate digital tools has become essential for organizational effectiveness and competitiveness. Digital literacy extends beyond basic technical proficiency; it includes information management, digital communication skills, data analysis, online collaboration, cybersecurity awareness, and the critical evaluation of digital content. Employees with strong digital competencies are better equipped to streamline administrative processes, manage academic data efficiently, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and solve complex problems using digital platforms. These skills directly contribute to improved productivity, accuracy, and overall job performance. Moreover, digital literacy enhances workplace adaptability by enabling staff members to quickly adjust to new software systems, remote working environments, learning management systems, and evolving institutional policies.
In addition, higher levels of digital literacy positively influence career progression by strengthening employability, fostering innovation, and supporting leadership development within HEIs. Digitally competent employees are more likely to take initiative, implement technology- driven improvements, and contribute strategically to institutional growth. This research seeks to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between digital literacy and key professional outcomes, offering practical recommendations for workforce development, training initiatives, and long-term digital capacity building in the higher education sector.
